RUGBY O.R.F.U. COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Union for the 1929 season was held last night, Mr W. Brown (president) in the chair. —Su b-co mmittees,— Tlie following sub-committees were appointed:— Flag Committee.—Messrs W. Holden (convenor), J). Spedding, and A. Haynes. Works Committee.—Messrs R. Proctor (convenor), W. J. Strong, J. Wootton. and J. King (Messrs W. Allen and E. Bagley were added to this committee in an advisory committee, the former in regard to grounds in 'the south end, and the latter in regard to grounds in the north end). Appointment Board.—Messrs S. G. Styche and D. Jolly. Carisbrook Ground Committee.— Messrs H. Harris (convenor), V. G. Cavanagh, and R. Praetor. Finance Committee.—Messrs G. Nelson (convenor), W. Allen. D. M. Stuart, H. Harris, and W. Brown. Appeal Committee.—Messrs H. Harris, G. Nelson, and N. G. Cavanagh. —Sixth Grade.— Arising out of a suggestion made at the annual meeting, it was decided to circularise the clubs and ask for an expression of opinion on a proposal to make the age for sixth grade under fifteen instead of under sixteen, the weight limit still to be ten stone. Clubs were asked to reply by April 6. —Faster Matches.— The Pirates Club made application for the use of Carisbrook for the annual match with the Christchurch Football Club on Saturday, March JO.—Permission granted, this match to commence at 3 o’clock. Permission was granted to the Kaikorni Club to play the Invercargill Club at Carisbrook on Saturday, this game to commence ah 1..30 n.m. The Secretary of ilie Alhambra Club wrote asking for permission for a junior team to play the Corsair Club, Christchurch, on Easter Saturday.— Permission granted. —Annual Meeting N.Z. Union.— The secretary of the New Zealand Union wrote, stating that the annual meeting of that body would be held on May 16. Nominations were invited of those suitable and available for appointment as New Zealand selectors. The c)uestion of 1 the nomination of selectors was referred to the Selection Committee, with power to act. —-Miscellaneous. Caretakers wore appointed for various grounds. The question of dressing accommodation at Logan Park was referred to the Works Committee. It was decided that the Works Committee should inspect and report on all grounds. Mr B. S. Wilson was reappointed secretary. A number of transfers were granted to players who had given the requisite six months’ notice, and forwarded clearances from clubs. In the case of five applications for, transfers, the dates of the clearances were some months after the dates of the applications, and it was decided to inform those players that the transfers would be considered six months from the dates of Ihe clearances. Mr Harris asked members to bear in mind that 1930 would mark the jubilee of the union, and to think over p:o----posah for fittingly observing the occasion.

THE AMUSEMENT TAX At the annual meeting of the Southland Rugby Union last night it was resolved to ask the New Zealand Union to petition the Government to exempt amateur sports bodies from the amusement tax. SOCCER O.F.A. COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the newly-elec-ted Management Committee of the Otago Football Association was held last'night in the Y.M.C.A. rooms. Mr J. B. M'Callum (president) was in the chair. The Chairman extended a cordial welcome to the new secretary, Mr A. Sinclair, who officiated at the meeting. Mr J. B. ;M‘Calhim was unanimously re-elected as chairman for the ensuing year. * Mr E. Anderson, a member of the committee, forwarded his resignation, which was accepted with regret. The secretary was instructed to write thanking Mr Anderson for his valued services in the past. Permission was granted to the Northern and Technical College Clubs to travel to Christchurch at Easter and also to the Maori Hill Club to play at Tiinaru. •In the latter case, the club is-to he asked to submit the name of the manager appointed. The application ot the Technical College, Club, for tire use of the ground and pavilion at the Oval ns in past years was granted, to take cllect as soon as the grounds cajne under the control of the association. The grounds at the Oval were defined as follows:—No. t ground, nearest theCarisbrook end; iNi.. 2, tunning parallel to No. 1: and No. 3, running east aud west.

It , was decided that matches commence on Saturday, April 20. all entries to be in the hands of the secretary by noon on Monday, April 15, and that the registration of all players must he effected by.noon of Saturday, April 20 . Tho secretary was instructed to circularise all clubs, reminding them of the rule affecting financial players and requesting that a list of such players for last season be. submitted to the association not later than Monday, April Messrs M'lnnes and Ball were elected a Match Committee, aud in conjunction with'tho chairman were also appointed to act as Grounds and Postponement Committee.
