OTAGO ASSOCIATION The annual report of tjie Otago Hockey Association states: — The in'onie and expenditure account disclose.! a loss of 13s 3d for the seasbn, itdiich is more than accounted tor ip |ho lack of support to the annual hall'and to the paying ot halt ot the fares of the Match Cup team to Christchurch. The amount of fees received from affiliated ciuhs during the season amounted to £76 9s 6d, being £7 11s 6d in excess of the former sea- . Twenty teams were entered in the grade championships, which were won as follows:—Seniors (seven entries), by University; juniors (eight entries), by Albany; third grade (nve entries), by Albany, The University Club therefore holds the Gil ray Cup, the Albany Club the Williamson Cup and also the Gymnastic Memorial Cup, The Hayward Cup, presented for the winner of the senior seven-a-side competition, was won by University Club, which also won the Mpller Cup, presented for the winner of the junior soven-a-side. Interest in hockey is still being well maintained in the secondary schools, especially at the Otago Boys’ High School. Headway is being made with school hockey, in that all the primary schools playing in the previous season were retained, and an extra entry in the Moray Place School was obtained by the good efforts of Mr Payton. During the season a primary schools’ team was formed and entered in the third grade championship with the view or giving d.he boys more experience apd also in ;m effort to retain them as hockey players after they leave school.

The senior representative * team played two matches, beating South Canterbury, in Timaru, by 6 goals to 2, and being defeated by Canterbury by 5 to 1. Both matches were very evenly contested. The junior representative team played two matches, both of which were lost. At Timaru, South Canterbury won by 5 to 1, and at Dunedin Canterbury won by 3 to 1. The secondary schools and primary schools (Hatch Cup) teams journeyed to Christchurch, but both were rather badly beaten, the former by 17 to 1 and tha latter by 9 to 0. The following gained senior representative honours;—Dr H. Barrett, Messrs M. Brook. G. Chantrell, N. Edson, T, Green, D. Gurr, Les Ireland, E. Jory, C. Mayston, E. Rennick, I. Silver, L. Smith, R. Twose, J. Watson, I. Withel, and D. Wooclfiekl, The following gained junior representative honours;—Messrs Lane, Fraser, Ronnie, Frost, Tyrrell, Poison, Sew Hoy, Rennick, O’Brien, Gallon, Hanning, M'Donald, Clark, Bellringer, Donavan.

The association was granted the use of two new grounds on the Logan Park area, which, owing to the lack of drainage, did not prove to be a success. The level of the Oval No. 1 ground is at present being raised, and when finished should be an ideal ground. It is with sincere regret that the committee records the death during the early part of the season of our patron, the late J. A. Park. Of Mr Park’s interest in Otago hockey, his love of the game, and his long and sustained interest as president of the association for twenty years too much could not bo said. His interest was sustained up till the time of his death. REFEREES' ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Otago Referees’ Association was held last night. Mr J. G. Gumming presided over a fair attendance of members. The secretary presented the eighth animal report and balance-sheet, which was considered very satisfactory. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr R. S. Wallace; president, Mr J. G. Gumming (reelected) ; vice-presidents-fcMessrs A. Chapman, J. Gray, T. Moore, A. W. Tucker, J. Starr; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. Miller (re-elected); representative to Otago Hockey Association, Mr J. G. Gumming; representative to Otago Ladies’ Hockey Association, Mr A. W. Tucker; executive— Messrs J. Martyn, T. Moore, J. Gray. Sir Gumming was delegated to appoint referees for Saturday matches. LADIES' ASSOCIATION A large number of delegates attended the annual ineeting of the Otago Ladies’ Association, held iu the Y.W.C.A. last evening, when Sirs R. Hudson occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet Sirs Hudson referred to the successful season last year, and expressed the hope that the coming one would be even more successful. Sirs E. Nelson informed the meeting that the two grounds used at Logan Park last year would not be available this year, and probably only one would be at their disposal. Next year, however, the association was assured of three grounds at Logan Park. It also had the option of using the main ground at the Park which was available to the four main sporting bodies in turn at a rental of £1 per week. However, the engaging of this ground could be left in the hands of the incoming executive. Again this year the lack of funds was a burden which the association would have to meet. Last year the association was £33 short of the expenses required to' send a representative team to the New Zealand tournament, hut this year another effort would have to be made to despatch a team from this province. The only way of solving the difficulty of raising money would be for the delegates from each club to unite in organising a, big carnival. The New Zealand Association had in view a proposal to send a New Zealand representative team to South Africa, in order to keep hockey on the map in New Zealand. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Hill for her valuable work as secretary. The opening day was fixed for April 27.

The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs R. Hudson; committee—Misses M. Kingston, N. Ireland, M. Adams, and R. Turnbull; secretary, Miss M. Hill; delegates to New Zealand Association, A. and E. Yorston.
