ST. KILDA BOROUGH
FORTNIGHTLY COUNCIL MEETING Those present at the -fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda-Borough Council last evening were the mayor (Mi R. W. Hall) and Crs H H. Leary, J. Fleming, T. I). 11. Hoy, F. 0. Giliara, C. Conn, G, Stratton, J. Beattie, R,. Teller, and E. Longworth. On behalf of the Ocean Beach Domain Board, Mr Fletcher Roberts, licensed surveyor, wrote asking what the intentions of the council were with regard to the widening of Victoria road at the west end frontage of Forbury Park, it was the intention of the board to lease to the St. Clair Tennis Club the levelled area of the sandhills opposite the park, and the representatives of the club were anxious about possible road widening in the future which might necessitate the moving of tho courts. —The Mayor said that the council had negotiated with the Forbury Park Trotting Chib in regard to tho widening of a strip of 30ft near the caretaker’s residence, but the council bad not considered the widening of a certain portion of the road mentioned in tho letter. If it could get the 13ft length of that part of the park that stood out on the road it would mean that the council would not have to acquire any property for widening purposes. The difficulty could be obviated if tbe premises belonging to tho Forbury Park Trotting Club were removed, but such a step would entail probably a few hundred pounds. No definite statement of the council’s position in the matter coaid be given. —Cr Longworth said the matter could very well be looked into again, when the difficulty could perhaps he overcome. He then moved that tbe correspondent be informed that nothing definite had been done yet, and that the Forbury Park Trotting Club be written to' and asked for a reply to tbe deputations from the council that waited upon that body some time ago. —The motion was carried. Cr Leary said that where the drainage work was being done at the. north end of New street the asphalting of the footpath was stopped' Could not something hs done to complete the asphalting? ... The Mayor said that the whole position rested on the drainage Cr Longworth commented that it could not be hug now before the drainage work was completed. The water consumption in the hornui'h for the past fortnight was 4.434.UOn gallons, at a cost of £ll2 2s, as against £ll3 13s fid for the previous period.
