INTER-FACULTY COMPETITION MEDICALS WIN THE SHIELD Under excellent weather conditions the interfaculty' sports of ilie University of Otago were Jield on tiie Caledonian Ground on Saturday atternoon. The track, though, was on the slowside after the heavy rain, and the records set up by three men were very creditable. > The entries were large, but only small iields went to the starting line. Tins attendance, considering the num-ber-of students and college supporters, was disappointing. The officials worked willingly, but the competitors showed no hurry to reach the starter on scheduled time. In consequence the delays were annoying at times. The outstanding performer of the day was A. 11. Malcolm, who smashed two records. In the 440yds flat he lowered the record which stood, jointly with 11. K. Sumpter, in his name hy 3-ssec, and in the 440yds hurdles he also lowered his and H. I). Morgan's time by 3-ssec. He also won the 220yds Hat, and was second in the high jump. He won thc_ Barnett. Gup for the competitor gaining most points. The Thompson Shield, given by JTofessor G. A. Thompson for the faculty scoring most points, was easily won hy Medical, with 37 points, Arts scored 25, and Dental, Mining, and Science Faculty and Law and Commerce were level with 14 points. The racing, was quite interesting. Malcolm tvon the hurdles events easily, but in'the 440yds he did not get a good passage till reaching the turn lor home, where he drew out to win in record time. H.
