LONDON', March 22, Extraordinary scenes were witnessed at dead of night at Croydon when five bodies were exhumed at the instance of the police. They were those of Mrs Yiolet Sidney, aged sixtynine, the widow of a barrister; her daughter Vera, aged forty, who died on February 19; her brother-in-law, Fclmund .Duff, aged fifty-nine, exHigh Commissioner of Nigeria, who died in April last year; and Mr Duff’s two daughters—Suzanne, aged two years, who died in 1904, and Margaret, aged seven, who died in 1919. Exhumation took place shrink taneously, so many together being probably unprecedented. Investigations began after the sudden death of Mrs Sidney, when the coroner adjourned the inquest without. explanation. Scotland Yard authorities have since' pursued inquiries. There was the greatest secrecy • about the distintevment, which took place at the cemetery after midnight behind canvas screens. —Australian Press Association.
