{.Special to the ’ Star.’! AUCKLAND, December 29. A dozen runners went to the post for tho Champion Handicap, _ decided over 11m. Gold Jacket was installed favourite, with Kohara and Cardinal Logan most fancied of the others. Queen’s Own broke •up at the start, and Jack Potts was slow to move. Kohara was first out from Gold Jacket, Jackie Audubon, and Cardinal Logan, and as they passed the stand the order was Kohara, Gold Jacket, Jackie Audubon, Padlock, Talaro, and Cardinal Logan all racing in a bunch, with Jewel Pointer next. Jackie Audubon went into the load along the back attended by Gold Jacket, Jewel Pointer, Kohara, Cardinal Logan, Padlock, Talaro, Peter Bingen, and Prince Pointer. Tho order was the same across tiio top, with Prince Pointer moving up fast. _ Gold Jacket turned for homo first, with Kohara, Cardir.il Logan, Jewel Pointer, and Prince Pointer handy. In a stirring finish the last-named got the verdict by a. neck from Kohara, with Gold Jacket third a similar distance away. Cardinal Logan was fourth, then came Talaro, Padlock, Jewel Pointer, and Great Bingen, with Jackie Audubon last. Loch Moigh dropped out of the Summer Cup, the principal event on the programme, in which most support came for King Pointer. Free Advice •and Dalmeny also had plenty of friends. At the start The Abbey whipped round and interfered with Native Prince. Passing the stand the first time, Dillon Huon was in the van, followed by Dalmeny, with King Pointer and Free Advice together in behind them. Then came Native Prince, Pctenvah, and Terence Dillon. The field was well bunched along the back, and passing the stand next time Dillon Huon, Dalmeny, and Native Prince were racing together in the lead, with Free Advice, King Pointer, Terence Dillon, and Peterwah following. Free Advice ran to the iront along the back, with King Pointer close up, Peterwah putting in a skin at this stage, and losing ground. Tho order in tho straight was Free Advice, King Pointer, and Terence Dillon, and the first-named holding her own, went on to win by half a length from King Pointer, with Terence Dillon a neck away, two lengths ahead of Peterwah. Dalmeny was fifth, and then came Native ‘Prince and Dillon Huon last.
