SUICIDE IN CELL

ARRESTED AT OWN INSTANCE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, December 29. Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., held a coronial inquiry respecting the death of Thomas Pauling, a labourer, aged thirty-four, in a cell at the Mount Crawford Prison. The verdict was that the deceased committed suckle by hanging himself. The coroner said that no blame was attachable to any of the officers. Constable Lush said that the ' deceased came to him on Lambton quay on Christmas Eve, and said he . had been drinking heavily for the past fortnight, and if he was not locked up ho would commit suicide.
