FIRE IN WIRELESS STATION
MEAGRE DETAILS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 28. A fire occurred in the beam wireless station to-day at about 3 o’clock, and threatened to destroy the whole establishment, together with the £30,U00 equipment. The beam station is situated south-west of Ballarat, ei, -t miles from Ballan. The fire was burning tor an hour and a-half when the brigade arrived from Ballarat. Beam officials removed the expensive valves, but were powerless to fight the fire. The details are meagre. SERIOUS DAMAGE. Press Association—By Telegraph —Copyright. MELBOURNE, December 28. (Received December 29, at 1.30 a.m.) The greater portion of the main machinery in the building was gutted. The dynamocs were seriously damaged. Only the walls of the power house were left standing. The fire started in the roof. The officials of Amalgamated Wireless stated to-night that the receiving plant was impaired, but the transmission mechanism was nob damaged. The service would recommence at 6.15, Melbourne time.
