ROMANCE AND REVOLVER
YOUNG MAN'S PASSION [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 28. James Alfred Essex Grundy, who was remanded from last Monday, charged with assault and unlawful possession of a revolver, was convicted in the Police Court and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, on condition that he leaves Auckland immediately. The girl to whom the charge of assault related, collapsed in court and was unable to give evidence. The Rev. A. V. Whitling, Congregational minister at New Lynn, whose wife had been taking care of the girl, said accused could mould the girl to his will just as he wished. Accused followed witness into the church schoolroom, locked the door, and wanted to fight, saying witness had been trying to part him from the girl. It was on the following day that accused went to the house with a revolver. Constable Hoag said he caught accused and threw him, taking a revolver and four live cartridges from him. Accused stated that he intended going to Melbourne at once. [lnfatuated with a young woman, James Alfred Essex Grundy, would allow nothing to keep him from her, and when she was sent away he went to where she was staying, and, with a loaded revolver in his possession, demanded her hack.]
