TREATY WITH CHINA
BRITAIN CEDES AUTONOMY Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 27. (Received December 28, at 1.35 p.m.) The Anglo-Chinese treaty was signed at Nanking on December 20, and has now been released by the British Foreign Office. The treaty reveals the abrogation of all existing treaties which limit the right of China ‘to settle her own national Customs tariff or to impose tonnage dues in accordance with her own desires. An annexe to the treaty provides a similar renunciation, on behalf of the dominions, including Australia and New Zealand, of any such rights. China, in return, grants- Great Britain and the dominions “ most favoured nation ” treatment. A. and N.Z. Cable.
