CEiITUBV TO BLUNT WELLINGTON REQUIRES 339 [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, December 28. The Blanket Shield match, Otago v. Wellington, was continued in fine weather. Blunt and Monk resumed, M’Girr and Rotherham bowling. After 3 byes, Monk was caught dose m by Hoar off M'Girr’s fourth ball. Galland filled the vacancy, and runs came freely, the batsmen forcing the pace, in contrast to yesterday’s play. After quarter of an hour's play, with the score at 262. Lambert relieved M'Girr. The new bowler failed to slacken the scoring. Galland, hitting hard, sent a full toss from Rotherham to tire leg boundary, and drove the next two lor 4’s, 14 coniine off the over. Badcock replaced Lambert, and Hoar took the ball from Rotherham. Badcock kept the runs down, and nearly caught and bowled Galland in his second over. The 300 was up at 11.40, with the innings in progress 304 minutes. At 31S Foley relieved Hoar, and Galland was well caught bv M'Girr at long-off off his second delivery. The retiring batsman gave a bright display. Cavaiiagli came in, hut skied one from Foley before scoring. At noei) the score was 322 for six wickets. Blunt reached his century just alterwards. It had taken 205 minutes. Ho was very subdued at times, but sparkled occasionally to-day. A, Alloo did not last long, falling to M'Girr at mid-off, of! Badcock, who had relieved Foley. Elmes came in. to see Blunt’clean bowled by M'Girr. Zimmerman followed Blunt, but fell log before wicket after notching a single. Douglas was last man. and at 12.30 p.m. he was bowled by M'Girr. The innings realised 351, and Wellington requires 399 to win. Dempster and Rotherham opened the innings at 12.45 p.m., Eastman and A. AHooHiowling. At lunch the score was 8 for no wickets. AUCKLAND The match between Auckland and Otago at Carishrook next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday is ■’rousing considerate interest in view of the easy victory of the Aucklanders ■'ninst Canterbury in their first Blanket Shield engagement and because of the fine showing made by the Otago team against Wellington. Auckland has a strong bowling side and' many fine batsmen', hut Otago is also strong in batsmen and the howlers have so far done well against Wellington. Otago supporters are confident of the home side making good showing against the northerners, and if the home team is able to win this match its chances of carrying off the Plunket Shield will be bright—that is, if it is able to secure victory against Wellington in the present game. Still, the Anckland-Otngo match is hound to provide some exhilarating cricket, and as both sider have their professionals engaged, added interest will be lent to the game. The Auckland team is due to arrive here to-morrow morning, and play will commence on Monday morning’ at 11 o’clock.
