CARNIVAL AT ST. CLAIR

In an attractive setting at St. Clair the St. Kilda and Tramway Bands are holding a carnival with the object of raising £I,OOO to defray the cost of "heir transport to the band contest at .Wanganui next year. Yesterday happy crowds of holiday-makers visited the fair, and brisk business was done at the various side-shows and stalls, while the competitive events excited great interest. In the evening, under the glare of many electric globes, the carnival presented a picturesque and animated scene, the crowd entering into the spirit,of things. The carnival was continued this afternoon, competitions being staged for the best poster, the best decorated pram, and the most original men’s costume. The carnival will be continued this evening, and tomorrow afternoon and evening.
