The Constantinople correspondent oj the ‘ Manchester Guardian ’ states that Angora lias ordered the calling up on January 1 of all Turkish citizens between the ages of 16 and 40 lor instruction in reading and writing in the reformed language. Speeches emphasise the importance of universal literacy. Heads of families may engage to teach members of the households, and busbands may teach their wives, but all must undergo a public examination.— Australian Press Association.
