ANNUAL CONVENTION The thirty-third annual convention of the Theosophical Society, whose membership now stands at 1,126, with nineteen lodges all over the dominion, was opened yesterday, morning in the hall of the local lodge in Dowling street, delegates and members from various parts of the dominion being present. . After greetings had been read from the various branches, Mr J. R. Ihomson (Auckland) briefly outlined the aims and objects of the society, emphasising the ideals of brotherhood and service as a living force in the lives of the members for which the society worked. He strongly urged on all present the great need, especially at the present time, of recognising and realising the unity of life. The members should bo vigilant in seeking out good causes, helping those whom they could usefully serve, sending out sympathy and goodwill to all. They should all realise the impossibility of being students of Divine wisdom .unless they were active in the service of the Divine life. Where there'was trouble, suffering, ignorance, quarrelling, injustice, tyranny, oppression, and cruelty there must bo found the earnest workers,of. the Theosophical Society. The election of officers resulted .as follows; General secretary and national lecturer, Mr William Crawford; treasurer, Miss G. M. Hemus; assistant general secretary and treasurer, Miss Stone; librarian, Mrs J. Brooks; auditors. Messrs Carter and Phoney. It, was decided that the next convention bo held at Wellington.
