DUNEDINITE ABROAD
MANAGER OF TIN MINES Holiday time invariably brings many people back to their own home town. One of the most interesting of these in Dunedin at present is Mr W. G. Tyson, who came In see Ins aged mother in Musselburgh after an absence of many years in various parts of (lie wprld, Mr Tyson is a mining engineer, having occupied positions in Siam, Kurina, the Malay . States, and Northern Nigeria. He recently leit Nigeria to take over the position of manager of the St. Paul’s tin mine in Tasmania, and has taken the opportunity of the. holidays to come over to see the haunts of his youth. He is surprised and delighted au the growth of Dunedin, which lie considered a, wellbuilt city. He was particularly impressed with the increase in the number of houses in Musselburgh,'where open spaces which lie know are now covered with’. buildings. Mr Tyson is very modest concerning his own adventures abroad, and could not be induced to say much of his experiences in Nigeria, where the tin mine which ho managed is situated 5,000 feet above sea level. It is a fijio healthy climate, dry and warm, and suitable for white people. There is an abundance' of milk and butter, and prime beef is plentiful, 'The tin mine is worked by coloured people, who. arc migratory in their habits. In that part of Africa there are a number of New Zealanders, all of whom are doing well. In tho course of his duties Mr Tyson made a number of journeys between Nigeria and London, and he has a very warm spot in his heart for tho Old Country, where he has loft his wife and family, who will probably join him later in Tasmania. Mr Tyson has been away from New Zealand since _ 1904, with the exception of one trip to tho_ dominion. Ho is staying in Dunedin till Saturday,
