The Wellington police have been keeping a watch at Island Bay in the mornings jawing to complaints of thefts of milk and cream, and on Christmas morning a violent struggle took place when a constable arrested Walter Richard Williams, a labourer, sixty years of age, other help having to be obtained. Yesterday Williams was sen-j teneed to a fortnight's imprisonment f, for the theft of live bottles of cream which were found in his possession, and to a month’s imprisonment for assaulting the constable with a beer bottle, the sentence to be concurrent, and he. was convicted and discharged _ on a charge of resisting. At the police station 'he complained of injuries, and it was found that he had two ribs broken, lie was ordered to pay Cl Is doctors tee, in default a week’s imprisonment on the previous sentences. The subinspector said the injuries, might have been caused in the struggle, which was a very severe one.—Press Association.
