GAME OF CHESS
SUGGESTED ALTERATIONS Press Association—By Tebgr.iph—Copyright LONDON, December 25. The ox-ohanipion Capablanca recently made a suggestion that the chess rules should bo altered to revitalise the game by making a. board of ]OO instead of 04 squares, adding two pieces to each side, one wiLh the powers of a rook knight and the other with that of a bishop knight, Mr S- S.' Blackburiie, a prominent chess and croquet player, writing from New Zealand to 'The Times,' says_ lie has no fears that Capablauca's proposal will supersede the present game of chess. )fc can exist side by side therewith, as has been demonstrated by the alternative methods of playing, croquet. Let those who prefer the existing form of chess continue it, and let the world's championship aspirants decide whether they will follow on the lines of Capablniica's proposal or any other, provided it is legislatively sanctioned, giving all a fair trial with properly designed pieces.—London ' Times ' Cable.
