BROADCASTING GRANTS.
10 TEE EDITOR. Sir, —I understand that our local stations—4ZL, 4ZM, and 4Zo—arc endeavouring to obtain grant from the Government for expenses or, as an alternative, permission to use 10 per cent, of their broadcasting time for advertising purposes. The Radio Broadcasting Company, Ltd., is horrified at the idea of the listeners’ funds being “ raided ” in this way. Personally, I am not in favour of a grant, but I certainly think that these stations should he allowed to raise funds by means of advertising. As far as the Radio Broadcasting Company is concerned Dunedin is comparatively neglected, as 4YA is on the air some twelve hours less per week than any other YA station, and, but for the private stations Dunedin listeners would got very little music over the air. All thanks are due to tlies;e private stations for the many hours of pleasure they afford us. Thanks must also be extended to the staff of 4YA, who try to do their best, though not helped by the Radio Broadcasting Co.— 1 am, etc., Radio Listener. December 20,
