MACANDREW BAY REGATTA
U A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION ' Though yesterday morning broke dull iuid unpromising, a crowd of about 2,000 people journeyed by bus, ferry, car, and boat to Macaudrew Bay to witness the annual regatta. During the morning, however, the weather gradually improved, and the afternoon proved ideal for the rowing and motor boat events, but the sailing races were slow, and the all-comers’ and that for the 14-footers were called off alter the first round had been completed. Owing to most of the speed boats not being completed, the speed laulich championship of Otago Harbour was not held, but Mystery gave a ■demonstration on the course. Mr W. J. R- M'Culloch’s liew outboard speed boat Miss Heather made her first appearance at the regatta. ■ During the afternoon the West Harbour Brass Band, under the baton ot Mr C. J. Davie, played a programme of music. Mr E. A. Gibson was commodore, -while the secretarial section of the work was carried out by Mr F. O. Brown. The sailing events were handicapped by Mr A. D. Asher, and Mr A. Lindsay acted in a similar capacity for the —' launches, and also made an efficient starter and time-keeper. Messrs A. Snfith and G. A. Wiseman were the judges, and the clerk of the course was Mr G. Tuckey. The model yacht events were judged by Mr W. J. Watson, and the handicappers and starters were Messrs R. Dixon, H. C. Applegarth, and R. Lee. The rowing judges were Messrs W. Glengarry, H. E. Lyon, and W. Robinson, the starter was Mr W. Lysaght, while the events wore umpired ■ by Mr C, ,R. Caffin. The New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association was represented by Mr E. V. Eairbairn. The course for yachts 12ft Gin and under was from an imaginary line between the flagship and flagged beacon oh*the flagship, thence round flagged buoy off Dublin Bay bathing shed; back over starting line, round flagged buoy off Auld’s Point, and finish over starting fine—twice round.. The yachts and motor boats started over imaginary line between flagship and flagged beacon off flagship, thence rolmd flagged buoy off Raynbird’s Bay; back over starting line, round flagged buoy off Mitchell’s boat shed, and finish over starting line. ■' Following are the results of the various races POWER EVENTS.
