VICTORIAN BOWLERS

TO-DAY'S MATCH WITH DUNEDIN CENTRE EXECUTIVE For the first time since their arrival in New, Zealand a Victorian bowling team, comprising three rinks of players, took part in an active engagement this morning, their opponents being members of the Dunedin Centre Executive. The party, which includes eight ladies, disembarked from the Manuka on Christmas Eve, and was welcomed by the local executive. Yesterday morning the visitors were taken for an enjoyable motor drive around the city; biit unfortunately the rain in the after1100V positively forbade the playing of a game on the Balmaccwen green between the Victorians and the Dunedin Centre. In the pavilion Mr R. H. Todd extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. Messrs R. A. Clarke and H. A. Wood spoke in reply. Spirits ran high when the teams met mi the Dunedin green this morning. So eager were all the players to get into action that the preliminary speeches were cut short, Air J. B. Frame (president of the Dunedin Bowling Club) welcoming the tourists to the green. In reply, Mr E, H. Blackwood, of the Victorian team, stated that this was the first time they had been able to play in New Zealand. At the Bluff the sailing hour of the boat bad upset any arrangements that might have been made for a game. The abandonment of yesterday’s game had been very disappointing, but nevertheless they had had a, wonderful time, and would always have happy recolections of Dunedin. The game between the Victorians and the Dunedin Centre was keenly contested, the issue being in doubt until the last shot. The scores arc as follow t(he Victorian names arc mentioned first) ; Vic.
