The Opihi is due at Dunedin on Friday from Westport via Bluff, to discharge a quantity of coal. She will sail hence for Lyttelton to complete discharge. The Nobel auxiliary schooner Huia, which left Aucklant. on December 20 with explosives for Dunedin, is due here to-morrow After discharge at this port the Huia will proceed to Greymouth to load timber for Sydney. With a full cargo of New Zealand produce, of which a large quantity was loaded at Auckland, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Curtis left Napier last Friday night for New York, Boston, and Halifax. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Tamaroa is to leave Auckland on December 28 for Opua, Gisborne, and Wellington to continue loading for London. The vessel will return to Auckland to complete loading, and she is to be despatched finally from that port for Southampton and London via Panama on January 19. The motor ship Cape York, 5,-207 tons, has been chartered to load case oil at an American port for New Zealand and Australia, i The Shaw, Savill Line steamer Kia Ora, was expected to leave Antwerp on December 22 with a cargo of basic slog for Auckland. She is due at the northern port about January 29. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Hardy arrived at New Plymouth on December 20 from Launceston to commence loading for England. lington, Port Chalmers, and Lyttelton. She is to be despatched from Lyttelton on January 11 for London via Panama. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Hororata was to leave Southampton on December 21 with cargo for discharge at Wellington, Auckland, and Bluff. She is due at Wellington on January 29. The Commonwealth _ and Dominion Line steamer Port Pine was expected to leave New York on December 22 for Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is expected at Auckland about January 23. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line motor ship Port Fremantle is scheduled to leave London on January 2 for Suva, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Napier. She is to be followed from London on February 13 by the Port Napier for Auckland, Wellington, and New Plymouth. • DANA AT AUCKLAND. The Danish scientific research steamer Dana arrived at Auckland on Wednesday afternoon from Denmark via way ports. The vessel left Copenhagen on June 5, and has since visited the Mediterranean, Madeira, Martinque, Panama, the Marquesas, Rarotonga, Apia, Suva, and Noumea. En route from Noumea to Auckland the vessel was off the Kermadec Islands for three days carrying out research work. She will remain at Auckland until after the holidays before she will proceed to the Hauraki Gulf to carry out research work in connection with the expedition, and also on behalf of the New Zealand Government. During her stay of three weeks in New' Zealand she will also visit Wellington. Subsequently she wall return to Denmark via Australia, Japan, China, Africa, the Red Sea, and Suez Canal. The Dana is a converted British trawler of 2SB tons, and was built at Selby in 1927. In addition to e six scientists on board, the vessel has a crew of twenty-four all told. Captain H. Christensen is in command, and the following arc the officers: —Chief, Lieutenant S. Grene, Lieutenant C. Rees; chief engineer, Mr P. Vogt; second, Mr N. Sejrup; third, Mr K. Frohn; wireless operator, Mr A. Mon. PERSONAL. Mr J. J. Barnard, second officer of the Katoa, is on sick leave, and Mr D. J. R. M'Kenzie has rejoined the vessel in a similar capacity. Mr R. H. C. Hargreaves has rejoined the Tamahino as second officer, relieving Mr D. Luckett, who has gone to Sydney for his holidays. Mr A. W. M'Donald will join the Waipahi as s..md officer at Auckland on Monday. Captain A. Reed, of the Kaikorai, has been granted holidays at Auckland. Mr N. Archbold has arrived from Sydney, and is now on holiday at Wellington. Mr E. Sutherland, chief officer of the Kaimanawa, has been granted holidays at Auckland. Mr J. B. Gibson, who has been on sick leave at Auckland, has now reported, and been granted holidays and leave for his certificate. The Maimoa, which arrived at Auckland on December 19 from Liverpool, is commanded by Captain J. Johnson. NEW LIGHT AT NORTH QAPE. The new light at the North Capewas exhibited last Thursday evening for the first time. According to the ‘ Gazette ’ notice the beacon is on the; summit of the small peaked islet Murimotu, lying close eastward of North Cape, the approximate position being latitude 34deg 25min south, longitude 170 dog smin east. It is a group flashing white light showing two flashes every GOsec. The light is in a white iron tower 19ft in height, and the elevation of the light above sea level is 326 ft, the visibility of the light being sixteen miles. The ‘ Gazette 1 notice also states that owing to its elevation the light may be seen beyond its scheduled distance of visibility, and the arc of visibility has not been precisely defined.

The intercolonial steamer Manuka arrived at Dunedin late on Monday night from Melbourne via Milford Sound and Bluff, and berthed at the cross wharf to land passengers and unload general cargo.
