MOSGIEL SCHOOL CONCERT
There "as a record crowd at the Mosgiel Cox-onation Hall last night on tlie occasion of the annual concert of tlio local High School. The chairmand of the School Committee (Mr H. Millar) presided. The stage effects and the picturesque costuming of the children were excellent. Coloured lighting effects were arranged by Mr 11. Butcher. The whole concert reflected great credit on the teaching staff responsible for the production of the -various items. The programme was as follows:—National Antbcm; opening song, infants; recitation, Misa P. Cantor; sailor song, infant boys ; recitation, Miss Irene Thomson; school song and sea chanties, senoir classes; handkerchief song, Primer IV.; action song, ‘Pageant of Autumn,’ Standard 1.; action song, ‘ M'Namara’s Band,’ Primer IV.: recitation, Master P. Canter; dialogue, ‘Being Done For,’ secondary pupils; fairy song, ‘Lullaby,’ infants; flower song and sailors, Standard II.; nursery rhymes, infants; action song, ‘ Elves, Fairies, _ and Pirates ’; action song, ‘ Hi-diddle-diddlc,’ Standard IV.; butterfly action song and dance, Standard II.; dialogue, ‘ A Queer Mistake,’ Standard V. : song, ‘May Morning,’ Standard IV.; plav, ‘Wee MacGregor’s Purtv,’ Standard IV. Appropriate addresses were given by the mayor (Mr Walls) and the rector (Mr Kaye). The former presented the medals won during the year as follows :—Dux of the secondary school, Eileen Stanger; dux of the primary school, Doris Kayo; runners-up, Lindsay Young and James Gilchrist. The school prizes were distributed in the afternoon, in the presence of parents and friends. Mr H. Millar presided, and was supported by Mr A. E. Ansell, M.P. The presentation of prizes was made by the Rev. C. Duncan, the chairman, and Mr Ansell. A special prize for attendance was awarded to Master Lawson.
