FILMS FROM THE AIR
AERIAL CRUISE TO AFRICA TEB LATEST ADVENTURE. An aerial tour to Nairobi, Kenya Colony, and South Africa began on October 29, when Mr T. Tbistlewayte and Lieutenantoonrmander Glen Kidston loft Croydon Aerodrome in the Fokker three-engined monoplane Ceil Bleu, formerly the property of the late Mr Alfred Locwenstcin. Captain Donald Drey, of Imperial Airways, Mr Locwenstein’s pilot, is again piloting the machine. The party also includes Mr Whatley as mechanic and Mr Brand, who is carrying out the duties of valet. They intend to make an aerial survey generally, stopping en route for big game shooting, a feature of the journey being the taking of cinematograph pictures, which will provide a pictorial record of the trip and of the game encountered. The machine was, prior to departure, specially equipped so that pictures may easily be taken from the air, while the “ plant ’ aboard will provide up-to-date facilities for taking moving f pictures of any hunting excursions which may take place. “ The route proposed is by France, Italy, Malta, Tripoli, Egypt, end Sudan," one of tbe party said to a Press representative just prior to tbe departure from Croydon Aero- j drome. “No difficulty is anticipated until j the machine reaches the final stage of its ( outward journey, when tbe small aerodromes at high altitudes may cause a oer-! tain difficulty in landing this targe machine. I It is hoped to reach the destination in j about ten days. On arrival at Nairobi tl>e | owners propose to go on a two months’ safari, the heavy luggage and equipment having been sent on in advance. Later it is possible that the trip may be continued to Cape Town, the return journey being made by a slightly different route." No cabled information has so far boon received in New Zealand as to the success or otherwise of the adventure.
