BOYS' CRICKET MATCHES
OTAGO r. CANTERBURY. The annual matches between Otago and Canterbury Boys’ Cricket Associations’ senior and junior representative teams were commenced at Hagley Park, Christchurch, yesterday. Canterbury batted first in the senior game, and opened badly, two wickets falling for 1 run. Cusack then did the hat trick, and 18 runs only were on with six wickets down. The tail wagged vigorously, however, the innings closing for 176, of which Carpenter made 118 by forceful cricket. Cusack took five wickets for 44 runs and M'Carten three for 49. Otago had lost five wickets for 67 runs when stumps wero drawn, M'Carten (23) and Cusack (22 not out) being the principal scorers. In the junior game Otago made a poor start, Duggan, Anderson, and Aitchison being dismissed with only 1 run scored. Smith scored 51, Walkinshaw 33, Dalzell 15, and Walls 11 not out. For Canterbury Kenwood took four for 15 and Goldstono three tor 17. At stumps Canterbury had lost two for 40.
