CHINESE “ DOCTOR" ARRESTED ]t is a well-known fact that Chinese doctors o£ the “old school” make some weird concoctions from bats, snakes, rats, and other vermin for the curing of ills to which the Chinese llcsli_ is heir An unregistered Chinese physician named Chang Sui-ping, practising in Chapei, the northern suburb of bhanghai, has eclipsed his confreres by preparing a decoction composed ot tne juices of herbs mixed with certain portions of the anatomy of a new-born mto the police report, “Doctor ” Chang secured a new-born infant about six hours old, built a fire in the yard at the back ot his office and proceeded to roast the victim alive, ihe cries of the infant attracted the attention of the neighbours, who notified the Chinese police. Changs house was raided and the police discovered, in addition to basins full o blood, a freshly-roasted infant. Doctor Chang was arrested and then taken o the constabulary headquarters. Chang informed tho authorities tin t his first thought in preparing Jus various medicines was for his patients and that ho considered outsiders had. no right to interfere. Chang_ also stated that his subject had no claim to a father and that the mother did not caro what happened to her child, tte had, therefore, purchased the'Poor unfortunate for ten dollars (£1), and could sec no reason for interference by the police.
