HAWTHORNE PRIVATE SCHOOL A largo gatherin': of parents and friends interested in the students of Hawthorne Private School and Kindergarten attended the All Saints’ School Room last evening, when the prize giving ceremony eventuated. Prior to the presentation of prizes by the Hcv. W. Hardy Johnston, a delightful entertainment was given by the pupils, who showed obvious signs of sound training. The hall and stage were attractively decorated tor the occasion, white a handsome Christmas tree, bountifully laden, was a most effective addition to Urn Christmas atmosphere prevailing. The programme, which was of a varied nature, and highly amusing, was opened with the school hymn and Christinas carol by the pupils, and followed by class singing by the senior pupils; musical drill, Junior and kindergarten pupils; gymnastic movements, senior pupils; doll dance, junior dancing pupils (Pena Pitcaithly, Rowena Gibbs, Zoo Knight, Ngaire M'Robio); pianoforte solos, Mario Naylor and Ngaire Fogg ; recitations, Alison Brown and Marie Naylor; rhythm and minuet, Junior and kindergarten pupils; exercises of preparation, senior pupils; frieze work and posing, senior girls; dance militaire, senior dancing pupils (Helen Young, Joyce Kitchin, Natalie Creagh, Bond- Creagh, Joan Young, Zoo Knight; tambourine dance, Joan Young; pianoforte duet, Marie Naylor and Ngaire Fogg, wand drill, senior pupils; ’The Fairy Clock’ dance, Joan Young Zoe Knight, Helen Young, and Joyce Kitchin; playette (‘The Fairy Riddle’).
