MONTHLY MEETING Tbo monthly meeting of tbo Otago Electric Power Hoard was held yesterday,. and attended by Messrs W. 15. .Callaway (chairman), P. Briscoe, H, M. Driver, J. Iv. Simpson, J. Guest, and D. Boyd, ENGINEER’S REPORT. The monthly report of tho engineermanager (Mr J. C. Collins) was as follows; Main Transmission Lino.—Quo fault on tho main lino to Lawrence on December 4 caused several interruptions to our southern area supply. This was duo to heavy wind breaking a tie; otherwise transmission lines arc in satisfactory order. ' ' Distribution.—in tbo Jalolutlia district 2,244 poles and 313 miles of wiro have been erected to date. During tho month reconstruction work lias been carried out ou the Kakapuaka lino. A transformer was erected a t Clyde terrace, Kaitangata, to supply power for drainage pump. The low tension to same has also been erected. Two transformer changes to suit range loading have also been made in this district. Various alterations to services in Kaitangata have been necessary, owing to tho Post and Telegraph Department’s extensions. The men are at present at work at Kaka Point. Switches were painted on tho tower main sub-station between 1 and 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 4. Transport in this district is in fair order. In tho Milton district 1,694 poles and 203 miles of wire have been erected to date, this being no increase from last month _ Rearrangement of transformers to suit loading in various parts of the district has been necessary in order to use our present stock to the best advantage. Three to live k.v.a. transformers have been replaced by 15 k.v.a. Transformers were changed at Kaitangata, and shifted to Mount Stuart in order to relieve three 25 k.v.a. transformers at Milbuni, which have been erected. The transformer towers at Milburn and Bruce Mills have been cleaned and painted, and extra oil required for transformers throughout the district has been supplied where necessary. Unnecessary earth guards on road crossings (duo to alterations in regulations) were dismantled between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. ou Sunday, December 9. In the Lawrence district 550 poles and 109 miles of wire have bcon_erected to date. Low tension extension and ■service was run to pump at Beaumont, and to motor service to Bowler’s Creek. Services were erected at Blucspur and Waitahuna. Tho showroom stock in this district lias been packed, and is at present in our store The mam line, which is at present in good order, caused serious interruption ; to the southern supply, due to a tio being broken on December 4.
In tho Waitati-Seacliff district 925 poles and eighty-eight miles of wiro have been erected to date. Sixty-two poles were erected at Seadilf, where tho men have been mostly employed, and are working at present. Low tension and services to two houses at Evansdalo were erected. J have mentioned before tbo necessity for consumers in this district to get in touch with the Waitati sub-station when any trouble occurs. On one occasion this month a Scacliff breaker tripped early in the day, and no message was received at Waitati until 6.30 p.m. The changing of the 11,000-volt insulators in this district lias at last been completed, and earth guards have been dismantled where they were no-longer necessarv. Ou December 4, due to heavv wind, a breaker tripped for a few "minutes. Something must have been blown across the line, because the trouble lias not recurred Tn tho I’almerston-Waikouaiti district 1,502 poles and 20G miles of wire have been erected to date. A new substation necessary at Waikouaiti tor range loading has been completed. Transformers, low tension, and services have been erected to supply consumers at Flag Swamp. Here, again, some rcarraugement of transformers has been necessary. In Palmerston three new consumers have been connected up, three at Karitanc, and one at Wailconaiti.
Extra low tension for raugo_ services at Waikouaiti is at present being erected. On December G* a heavy wind blew a portion of tho cow shed roof on Air Chapman’s property across our low tension, burning out a 5 k.v.a. 3fpha.io transformer. Tho feathered tribe are still causing trouble to cur lines at Waikouaiti, and as soon as possible wo shall put up wider amis lo trv and radicate this fault. ‘Tcstroom.—Jn the lestroom all Urn fifty-live single-phase meters lor tho p.iv. department at Scacliff have been tested, and also fifty-two of our own tested and despatched lor service. Eight transformers have been dried out and supplied with oil. Eighty'insulators from tho northern area were tested fm faults. Work in connection with transformer data tbrongnout tho district is still beaijs continued, Owaka. —Tho Owaka loan proposal, has been sanctioned by tho Government Local .Bodies Loans .Board, and arrangements aro being made to place tho loan proposal before the people on January M. It will bo necessary to arrange foi a public meeting at Owaka before that date. Tenders for the material required for tho Owaka extension will bo called for before Christmas, but owing to tho intervention of the Christmas holidays tenders could not close before January 11.
