HARVEST CHILD'S WIN

(.Special to ibs * Stab, 'J CHRISTCHURCH, December 18. Harvest Child was the best backed of the field for the Waimairi Handicap, and, always in a - handy position, he came away in the straight to outstay Kotuku Jack, who had made most of the running. It was the patience displayed by M. Holmes that landed Harvest Child a winner, as he fought out the'issue .in the gamesc manner possible. Kotuku Jack went a rattling good race from start to finish, and was unlucky in running up against such aa improved performer as Harvest Child. Shadowland was in a good position three furlongs from home, but lost his place only to come with a good burst of speed at the finish. He should not be long off the winning list. Of the remainder, William the Great made tli-i best showing. Fight Ever showed a lot of speed, but found the task of

giving big starts and going round his field a bit beyond him. Ariki refused to go when the barrier rose, and altogether gave a poor exhibition, while Warepa went for a mile and a-quarter as ho usually does. Billy Sea was never dangerous. Harvest Child is engaged at tho Auckland Meeting, and should pay his way if taken north.
