SCHOOLBOOKS IN ITALY
MUSSOLINI PLANS UNIFORMITY Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright. LONDON, December 16. Signor Mussolini’has planned uniform text-boobs for all the schools in Italy, The Vatican organ ‘ Osservatore Bomano’ .says that the teachers were allowed a certain amount of latitude before the Fascist revolution, provided the teaching did not conflict with the State’s Interests in temporal matters or the church’s spiritual matters. The heresies of freedom of conscience, speech, and Press came in with Liberalism. The Fascist regime rudely shook'them, but the existing textbooks continue ip teach them, and many
teachers arc still infected with doctrines which arc contrary to religious faith, Christian morals, and security of tho State. ■(Tho* ‘ Osservatoro llomano ’ calls attention .to tho continued teaching of freedom of conscience and speech, and espccial'y to the anti-Papal bias of cer* taiii history books. It fears that the uniformity of the books will prevent parents and children from indulging their special preferences in education. —London ‘ Times ’ Cable.
