MANCHESTER UNITY
Loyal Valley Lodge, 1 M.U.1.0.0.F., met on Monday evening in the hall, Albany street, N.G. Bro. C. Varcoe presiding over a largo attendance ol members. Visiting brethren wo re present in force, and the District Executive was represented by P.G.M. Bro. Johnston, P.D.G.M. Bro. Young, P. Secretary Bro. Hopcrai't, and P.P.G.M. Bro. Stabb. The chief business of tho (evonitig was the election of oflicers, I which resulted as follows: —N.G., Bro H. Varcoe; V.G., Bro. MTndoe; G.M., Bro. C. Varcoe; E.S., Bro. R. Russell; warden, Bro. Shepherd; guardian, Bro. M'Donald. The P.G.M. conducted the installation ceremonies, assisted by tho remaining members of the executive and visiting P.G.s Tho new oflicers were toasted, and suitably responded. Among those who offered congratulations to tho newlv-clcctcd officers was P.G. Bro. Fred. Millicr, tho first member of tho lodge on its foundation forty-five years ago. Tho P.G.M. extended congratulations on behalf of tho executive, and asked members to keep up their interest in tho Loyal United Juvenile Lodge, which was under tho control of the four adult lodges in tho city. Tho P.C. Secretary, Bro. Hopcrn’ft, referred to tho youthful appearenco of tho lodge’s officers, which augured well for tho future success of the lodge. P.P.G.M. Bro. Stabb referred ,'ympaihctically to tho illness of P.G. Bro. Seoones, of tho Loyal Dunedin Lodge. Ho also mentioned tho approaching departure from tho district of P.P.G.M. Bro.. Sullivan, of tho Loyal Albion Lodge. . On behalf of! tho Valley' Lodge P.P.G.M. Bro. Bobson expressed their regret at Bro. Sullivan’s departure, paying tribute to his very fine sendees to tho order, and extending best, wishes to him in his new sphere. Bro. Sullivan, in responding. referred to -his happy associations v.dtli tho Valley Lodge, and tho many friendships ho had formed, and stated ho would always have interests in tho Otago district." Tho toast of “Visiting Brethren ” was responded to by members of tho Loyal Cavorshnnr, Milton, Mosgicl, Priuco of Wales, Albion, Dunedin, ami Hand and Heart Lodges. Tho fortnightly meeting of tho Loyal Upper Glutha Lodge drew a fair attendance of members. Two new members were initiated into the order. Nominations were , received for the various offices for the ensuing term. During tho winter months meetings have boon held fortnightly, being well attended. It was decided to hold monthly meetings during tho summer term (to commence from December DR, at 8 p.m.
Tho annual summoned mccling of Loyal Dunedin Lodge, which was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday evening, was presided over by N.G. Bro. C. B. Barrowclough. Thera was a good attendance of members and visiting brethren, the latter including tho members of the District Fxccutiyc, who later carried out tho installation of officers, P.G. Bro. Goodall, an old and esteemed member of tho order, now of tho Loyal Timaru Lodge, was cordially welcomed, and .suitably acknowledged his reception. Correspondence and quarterly business wore dealt with and ,a new member initiated, after which tho election of officers was proceeded with. Tho following were elected and installed for tho ensuing term:—N.G., Bro. A. M‘Dongall; V.G., Bro. B. 11. Haugh; E.S., Bro. Roberts; G.M., Bro. Barrowclough; warden, Bro. Morris; guardian, Bro. Andersonconductor, Bro. M'Coll. Tho retiring auditors were reelected._ Loyal Centenary, Naseby, Tapanui, Valley, Timaru, Albion, and Hand ancl Heart Lodges responded to tho toast of visiting brethren. Owing to the holidays intervening, it. was clodded to hold the first meeting of tho new year on January 10.
