RHINELAND AND REPARATIONS NEGOTIATIONS TO BE RESUMED Press Association—Bj Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December IG. .(Received December 17, at 1 a.m.) The promised communique regarding the Lugano conversations from Sir Austen Chamberlain, M. Briand, and Dr Strescmann is completely colourless, merely expressing, a determination to do all possible to arrive as soon as possible at a final settlement of the difficulties arising from the mar. The United Press Association’s correspondent at Lugano says- that Germany has secured an assurance that negotiations for the evacuation of th< Rhineland mil) be resumed in January, when the reparations experts mill begin their task. The ‘ Observer’s ’ correspondent believes that the question of evacuation is in cold storage until the reparations experts report.—Australian Press Association. GERMANY DISAPPOINTED. BERLIN, December 16. (Received December 17, at 12.30 p.m.) Nationalist nemspapers regard tin results of the Lugano Conference as extremely poor. It has been clearly proved that an unbridgeable gulf continues. ‘ Kraus Zeitung ’ says that not the slightest progress has been mad on the subjects of reparations and dii armament, and promises of a futnr solution are worthless. ‘ Deutsche Zof tung' considers that Dr Strescmann i. politically dead, as ho has sacrificed German policy to bottomless illusions. —Australian Press Association-United Service.
