DRY SITTING
REICHSTAG MEETS AT MIDNIGHT THE PRESIDENT'S PRECAUTION Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, December 16. (Received December 17, at 11 a.m.) The Reichstag, for the first time since 1962, assembled yesterday at 12.5 a.m. for “a soda water sitting,” owing to tho President prohibiting alcoholics at tho restaurant in order to avoid a too spirited debate on the Parliamentary Budget. Tho galleries were packed witlijiight revellers anxious to witness the spectacle of compulsory teetotal deputies listening to the Finance Minister’s (Dr Hilferding) demand for an additional £2,500,000 to place the Reich officials level with the Prussian officials. It is predicted that the 1929 Budget will be the most difficult since that of 1924, entailing new taxes and a curtailment of expenditure.—Australian Press Association-United Service.
