The Hon. W. B. Taverner (Minister of Railways and Customs) returned to Dunedin from Wellington on Saturday night, and was in attendance at the Town Hall this morning to attend to his mayoral duties. Viscount Hampden and party arrived yesterday from the south, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Sir Harry Lauder and his niece, Miss Lauder, arrived in Dunedin by the through express on Saturday, and went on with Mr Donald Macdonald to Edendale, whore a holiday will be sperit. Our Parliamentary Reporter telegraphs that Mr Downio Stewart, cxMinister of Finance, is utilising his leisure from official business by undergoing a course of hydro treatment. He left for Rotorua to-day. Mr Zane Grey and Captain Mitchell arrived by the Makura to-day en route to Mercury Island. They left Wellington for Thames by train later, and hope to go on to the Great Barrier Island to try fishing there. If their luck is not good the Bay of Islands will again be visited, and later the party will go to Taupo.—Press Association telegram. The Hon, W. A. Veitch, Minister of Labour, cam© to Dunedin on Saturday night to visit his brother, and left by the 11.34 train this. morning for his homo at Wanganui. At the conclusion ot the performance of ‘Tom Jones’ in His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday evening, Mr John T. Leech, ou behalf of tlje mem here of the Lyric Club Choir, made a presentation to Miss Doris M'Curdy, one of tho soloists of the choir, t»ho is shortly to be married to Mr Arnold Perry. Mr Leech extended the best wishes of the choir to Miss M'Curdy, who was accorded musical honours. At tho weekly brass band practice of the Albany Street School boys last Tuesday evening tho band took the opportunity of presenting Mr Gray (convener) with a photograph album and Mr Hanna (conductor) with a case of military brushes ns a recognition of their untiring efforts year after year in the interests of the band.
