Two hundred British and 200 native army bands wil be puzzled how to dispose of their instruments, winch will become obsolete owing to the Army Council’s decree of a half-tone lower pitch, in conformity with _ orchestral musicians, necessitating a slight lengthening of wind instruments. Dr Malcolm Sargent urges shipping olf tho discarded instruments to the jungle to enable the natives to soothe savage beasts with unwanted trombones. Colonel Mackenzie Bogan, musical director of the Guards Brigade, lears that tho lowered pitch will result in a loss of brilliancy and power in outdoor performances. Mr Newburn Lcvien, secretary of the Philharmonic Society, endorses the change, as it will enable regimental bands and orchestras to play together. —Australian Press Association.
