ARAPUNI DOUBTS

EX-MTER’S QUESTION A CURIOUS ONE to the ‘ Stab.’] AUCKLAND, December 12. _ In an editorial on Arapuni to-day's ‘Star’ says: “We will not do the member for Hamilton the injustice of assuming that lie is anxious either to reflect Invidiously upon the Reform Government and its leader, or to strengthen the prestige of its successor; but the question that Mr Young asked yesterday in the House about the stability of the works at Arapuni admits of one or two rather curious interpretations. Mr Young is anxiousabout the rock formation and the foundations of the dam and power-house sites, and evidently distrusts the ; emphatic testimony in their favour borne by Mr Coates a few weeks ago. Did he ask the Reform Cabinet for an investigation? If he asked for it, why did he not get it? Certainly the terms in which Mr Young gave notice of . his question are a serious reflection upon himself, his leader, and his colleagues. Mr Young now appeals to Sir Joseph Ward. His question means either that, in deference to the interests,.of his party, he refrained from dqijig his duty to his constituents and tno country while lie was still in office; or that he failed to get satisfaction from his own leader and his political friends, and lie is now forced to appeal to the Liberals for help.”
