CHARGE AGAINST MENTAL HOSPITAL ATTENDANT [Per Uhitbd Pep.ss Associatiott.] WELLINGTON, December 12. The case was continued before’Mr E. Page, S.M., to-day, in which Tyrer, an attendant at the Porirua Mental Hospital, is charged with causing bodily lmr,m to a patient. A junior attendant named Quintall gave evidence fully corroborating the complainant’s fttory that the accused knocked the patient down and stamped on him. He said ho was in the room when the assault took, place, but had not interfered further than to say that the man had had enough. Witness proceeded to say that at the accused s instigation he had agreed to the concocted story of a fight having taken place between patients, and had signed accident forms to this effect, but witness said they is werc not trho. Tbc accused’s counsel, when the proceedings opened, said the accused intended to plead not guilty, Dr Mecky, of the hospital staff, who examined the patient, said he would believe tbo patient’s story, ns Ins word could be relied on, . . William Mosley, an attendant at the hospital, maintained that the patient was injured in a fight with another patient, and when on the ground hq was kicked by a third patient Witness had not taken much notice of the fight. He did not know why ho had not mentioned it in his statement to the detective.
