TRAMWAY ADMINISTRATION.
TJ THE EDITOR. Sir, — Im your issue of February 23 there appears a letter signed “Win. C. Murray” under the a hove caption. The matter lias been investigated, ami 1 am requested to forward for publication the following report from the tramways department The canard of the disposal of discarded bus tyres is being more fully dealt with in reply to an inquiry by the Dunedin Ratepayers’ Association, but meanwhile I might say that the four tyres disposed ot produced 15s each. We have a large quantity of these used tyres left, and would be glad to quit the lot at os a piece.. The tramway manager’s report on the specific questions put is as follows ■— Questions ] and 2: The tyros were sold by my sell. 3: They were paid for the day they were sold, and recorded on receipt No. 501 and cash book page 259. 4: The Nash tyros arc still in band, and from their appearance and the writer’s knowledge of them they wore absolutely done. From inquiries made I find that two employees inspected these tyres after they were taken off with a view to making an offer for same, hut did not consider they were worth taking away. Before one of those employees inspected the tyres lie stated in flic presence of four or five others that he was going to get those tyres as they fitted Ids car. and this probably has been responsible for the rumor. With reference to the use of the department's motor ears, if “ Wm. C. Murray ” would give day, time, and date, his question can he answered, as the department’s cars have been used on many occasions to convoy women and children on purely departmental work.— 1 am, etc., The Town Clerk. March 1.
