Mr Will Hays, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, told the Senate Committee that Sinclair advanced 260,000 dollars in Government bonds to help pay off the Republican campaign deficit in 1921, Mr Hays stated that he later returned 100,000 dollars to Sinclair, but the balance of i 60,000 was Sinclair’s personal campaign contribution. Mr Hays declared that he did not know if the bonds were those of the mysterious Continental Trading Company.
