KAWARAU DAM

MINISTER'S BELATED REPLY The Kawarau Gold Mining Company, Ltd., has now received from the Minister of Public Works a reply to the telegram sent to the Minister on February 1, 1928, requesting permission to close the gates. The Minister now states that in ms opinion the Government would not raise any objection to the gates being closed, provided the company complied with certain conditions hud down by the Minister regarding insurance. The Minister’s decision is not now likely to affect the company, in view of the 'fact that twenty-seven days have elapsed between the time when an. urgent request for permission to close was made and the Minister’s reply received. and during this interval conditions have been altered materially by the recent broken weather.
