NO MORE FLIGHT TRAGEDIES
BALLOONS TO KEEP OCEAN 'PLANES AFLOAT Tragedy on transatlantic air flights will be made impossible, it is claimed, by a new device which will bo fitted to aeroplanes. This device consists of vulcanised canvas bags which are attached to the fuselage of the aeroplane; they can quickly be filled with air by the pilot, and they will keep bis machine afloat. Each of them is connected by a small metal pipe to a stool bottle of compressed air. When the bags are deflated they can be folded into a very small space. At present when an Atlantic aeroplane encounters engine trouble and is compelled to come down in mid-ocean, the pilots’ chances of survival are practically nil.
