HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS

ANNUAL MEETINCi OF SOCIETY Mr J. J. Mallard presided over the annual meeting of the Otago High School Old Boys’ Society last night. The annual report, which was read and adopted, contained the following:— The annual shooting match between the past and present boys resulted in a win for the old boys. The committee desires to congratulate V. Cavauagh, who recently left the school, on being selected as a member of the Otago representative cricket team which toured in the north this season; A. W. Alloo on being elected captain of the Otago touring team; A. Knight on his success in representative cricket matches during the season; and G. Dickinson on his “century” against Wellington. During the year the school was visited by Mr L. S. Amery, Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, who gave a very interesting address in the school; also by the Minister of Education, Mr It. A. Wright, who addressed the boys and afterwards received a deputation from the society with reefronce to the direct representation of the society on the board of Governors. .It is with deep regret that the committee has to record the death of Mr E. 11. Bowler, who presided at the reunion dinner held in Tinmru in September last; also Mr Peter Duncan, Mr James Macandrew, Dr J. Somerville, and Dr D. J. Burt, The lullowing telegram was received from Sir Eraucis Dillon Bell: —“ The circular tells me the annual meeting of the Old Boys’ Society to-day. I must now be nearly the senior old boy, and for that reason venture to send all my best wishes for the success of all schoolfellows past and present and of our school.”—The Secretary was instructed to acknowledge Sir Francis’s telegram, and to state that those present at tno meeting greatly appreciated his kind wishes. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Sir Francis Dillon Boll; vice-patrons— Mr W. Downio Stewart, Sir Charles Stathara, Messrs T. K. Sidoy, M.P., J. J. Mallard, and W. J. Morrell; president, Mr D. J. Calder; vice-presidents— Messrs R. L. Fairmaid and A. C. Stephens; treasurer, Mr J. L. Calder; committee—Messrs F. H. Campbell, It. W. S. Botting, A. F. M'Naughton, Dr Fulton, Dr Greenslade, C. A. Latimer, A. L. Gillman, G. S. Thomson, H. Twhigg, and W. L. Hopkins; auditors, Messrs Barr, Hcrcns, and Co. Mr J. J. Mallard moved—“ That the rules of the society be altered, and that the office of past presidents be created.” Mr Campbell explained what -had been done in connection with the cricket ground at the school, and expressed the appreciation of the members of the staff and the boys of the improvements that had been made on the ground, He thanked the old boys and the City Council for the assistance they had rendered in this connection.
