ROSLYN AND KAIKORAI RATEPAYERS
_ The monthly meeting of the executive of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was field at the school house, and attended by Messrs P. L. Ritchie (chairman). Sinclair, Hunter, Allen, Wilson, Paterson, Kllis, Sherriff, Young, Goodlct, Bell, and the secretary. The Chairman made feeling reference to the loss sustained by the association’s vice-president.—-A motion of condolence with the. relatives was passed by members in silence. _Jn reply to a request from the association for the erection of an automatic traffic signal on the Ross strect-High-gato crossing, the town clerk wrote advising that the Tramway Committee could not accede to the request.—After discussion it was resolved to send a deputation to the Tramway Committee pointing out the dangers at this crossjug arising from the electrical pole being in the centre of the roadway, the telephone box being in the line of observation of the crossing ear, and from the absence of an alarm signal. The question of tar scaling the Roslyn business centre was again brought forward by Mr Hunter.—The Secretary said that a letter was received from the town clerk in 1926 stating that this work would be considered when framing the incoming year’s estimates.— It was decided that further representation should be made in the matter. A ratepayer wrote in reference to the danger which exists in certain portions of (he Roslyn district on account of the inadequate watm- supply for fire prevention purposes. On Hlgligate, from Hereford street to Bellevue street, and on similar levels, there is absolutely no water available for fire prevention. It was urged that the association should take this matter up and make strong representations to the council.—lt was decided to write the council asking to have this danger remedied without delav.
Two delegates were appointed to attend a round-table conference of ratepayers’ associations to consider tlie question of reverting to tlie ward system For representation purposes on the council, and the general principles of rating.—lt was resolved to comply with the request. Mr Ellis brought up the. question of the widening of the Kaikorai Valley road, and urged the executive to make representation to the council to have the widening of this road carried out with as little delay as possible.—During the discussion it was pointed out Unit this work is essential owing to the increasing residential extension and the motor traffic in the district, as tin's is the only main highway connecting with the Main South road.—lt was decided to prepare a petition to be left in the various shops and factories in the district for signature by ratepayers and residents advocating this long-delayed reform. Owing to the death of Mr Bnehler (vice-president of the association), Mr A. Ellis was elected to the vacant position.
