Australia, with one down for 9(1, resumed its first innings against Southland in threatening weather this morning. Several showers before lunch necessitated temporary stoppages, but the afternoon remained fine. The visitors gave an attractive display of batting on /in ca.qy wicket, and when the total had reached 507 lor the, losts oi nine wickets; the innings was declared closed.
