MARAUDING TRIBES
WAHABIS ATTACKED BY AIR FORCE A FORT DESTROYED. LONDON. February 27. The Bagdad correspondent of ‘ The Times ’ states that the Air Force made a series of successful, but hazardous, attacks on the Wahabis. Creeping up in cloudy weather, they attacked 200 tribesmen fifty-five miles south ol Basra. The raiders suffered severely and fled southwards. The air attacks were continued over a wide area for three days, and probably fifty were_ killed. _ Other marauding tribes gathered at Safa, probably for the distribution of plunder, and the Air Force raided them and blew up a fort. The exact casualties are not known, but they were certainly severe. The air operations Were attendee! with great risk, owing to the extraordinary accuracy of the Akhwan marksmen. Flying-officer Jackson, before lus death, punctured the petrol tank nod ignited the escaping petrol by firing a Verey light at it. He thus ensured the destruction of the machine. [Flying-officer Jackson was shot down while taking part in a previous attack, and Iris machine was captured.]
