BURNSIDE STOCK SALES
SHEEP AND LAMBS FIRM Store cattle sold at, lower rates at Burnside to-day, while there was a good demand for fat sheep'. Quality in most sections was good. Fat Cattle.—A yarding of 204. Heavy eows and heifers were again in large supply, and the proportion of average to prime steers was very fair. As the sale was late in commencing no prices can be given. Fat Slice]). About _ 2,200 were penned. The entry was mixed, the proportion of heavy wethers being moderate. A number of medium lightweight wethers were yarded. Fully a third of the yarding comprised ewes, mostly of fair to good quality. The opening demand was good, heavy wethers improving about Is per head, while ewes were firmer, easing, however, towards the close of the sale. Prices: Extra heavy wethers, 35s to 37s 9d: prime, 26s 9d to 31s 6d; medium, 22s to 23s 6d; extra heavy ewes, to 36s !)d; prime, 25s to 28s; medium, 21s to 22s 6d; light, 16s !)d to 18s. Lambs.—Quality displayed to-day was better than last week. The yarding included some heavy pointings of lambs and a few unfinished. There was a good general demand for all prime sorts, values being very firm. Mediums met with a moderate demand. Prices: Extra heavy lambs, 34s to 365; prime, 27s to 28s 6d; medium, 23s 6d to 255; unfinished, 19s to 20s 9d. Store Cattle.—There was a. good entrv, made up mostly of cows of various qualities, and including some thirty three-year-old bullocks and about forty two and a-half to one and a-lialf-ycar-okl steers. The demand was fair, values being about 10s lower than late rates. Prices: Three and four-year-old bullocks to £9 ss; good average steers, two and a-half years old, to £7; two-year-olds, *£6; one and a-half year-olds, £4 15s to £5 10s; mixed yearlings, £2
Pijjs.—The yarding consisted of 100 fats 'and eighty-eight stores, and the sale was about on a par with last, week's.
