BUSINESS AREA WIPED OUT
DISASTROUS PIRE AT OHURA [Pbb United Peess Association.] TAUMARUNUI, February 27. The main business area at Ohura was destroyed by a disastrous tire at 9 o’clock on Saturday night. The fire broke out in Mrs A. H. Harold’s drapery store, and the flames, fanned by a westerly wind, spread to Mrs J. Bleasel’s general store on the corner, then to Newton King’s offices, Simpson and Bate (solicitors), Mrs J. Scerup’s drapery establishment, and J. Seerup’s tobacconist shop, all of which were totally destroyed. Fire fighters worked hard, but were unablo to save the above-mentioned premises. They succeeded, however, in saving the Bank of New Zealand, which would have gone but for the fact that the recent rainfall filled the tanks and ensured an ample supply of water. The insurances are not available.
