AMERICA’S NAVY
THE HEIV PROGRAMME
CONSIDERED INADEQUATE BY
PRESIDENT.
WASHINGTON, February 25. It is understood that President Coolidge does not believe that the House Committee's programme will provide sufficient vessels for adequate national defence. The President is still insistent that it would have been bettor to have uH'ptod the seventy-one vessel prograVmo. and feels that the vessels shor.Vl be built ns the financial situation warrants. He holds that the time limit in the proposed House Bill is not binding on jiuotlior congress, which might to, and could, repeal it. It is not likely, however, that the President will veto the measure, parlicularly since it has been indicated that various leaders in the House oi Representatives will support the committee’s programme.
