AUCTION BRIDGE LAWS

SIMPLIFIED AMD CONDENSED MAJORITY BIDDING OPTIONAL. LONDON, February 24. The new laws of auction bridge, operating from March 1, as revised and adopted by the Portland Club aftei consultation with other London clubs, will he published on Monday. The language of the laws has been considerably simplified and condensed, and the order has been entirely rearranged, and therefore the laws cannot be compared "seriatum with the existing laws. The present hundred laws are reduced to sixty-six, divided into four sections. The first section is preliminary, comprises laws I to 7, which deal with the formation of tables, precedence, and selection of partners. The second section, comprising laws 8 to 31, relates to the rubber, dealing, shuffle, rut. deal, and auction play score. _ The third section, comprising laws 32 to 59, consolidates nil the provisions dealing with infringements and penalties. The fourth section, comprising laws 60 to 66, is miscellaneous, and deals with minor matters, like time limits and new cards. The introduction details the conferences and discussions that have taken place on the subject of majority calling. The appendix states that an alteration of the new law 1 is available for the assistance of clubs and players desiring to substitute majority calling for value calling. Law 14 states that each successive hid must he of either a higher value than last preceding bid or of equal value and a greater number of tricks.
