MONTHLY MEETING Cr J. W. Blair presided over tlio monthly nicotine of the Taicri County Council on Friday. CORRESPONDENCE. The -Hon. Secretary. Outrani Plnnket Society, wrote asking if the council could see its Way to grant a donation to the Outram branch—lt was decided to vote £5. Charles Campbell, Momoua, wrote regarding permission to Jay a lin water pipe along and across District road at his place for water .supply—Granted under usual conditions.

'James Harrison. ’Hindon, submitted the names of James Eernie and P. J. Lister for election as trustees, Hindon Cemetery, in place of M. Graham (deceased) and W. F. Cameron, who had 'eft the district.—Recommended for approval. J. S. llcnwick, MiddleuiurCh, wrote regarding some attention to road leading in to his place.—To be attended to. Mrs A. E. Valentine, Middleraarch, wrote regarding permission to erect a fence 6ft out on road, as protection to live fences on the frontage of her property.—Granted on usual conditions. The Assistant Under-secretary, Department of Lunds, forwarded a copy of proclamation proclaiming lands as roads in (a) block 11., Maungatna yCity Corporation road, Waipori) ; (b) blocks ill. and NHL, Sutton (Matarac to Sutton road). —Noted.

The Mayor of Wellington made an appeal for and on behalf of the MoncrietfHood (aviators) fund.—The appeal was ordered to lie on the table.

The Chairman of No. 17 District Highways Council wrote as follows: — (a) Advising that £2 tor £1 had been granted for gravelling portion of main highway near Clark’s Junction j (b) forwarding authority lor erection of Whare Creek bridge; (c) schedule showing motor registrations to December Jl, 1927—A1l noted and received. J. W. Rollinson wrote regarding tiro state of the road from the schoolhonse, Whare Flat, to Kay’s bridge, and asking that some repairs be made to it.— ft was decided that the surfacemen spend a. few days on the road. The District Engineer, New Zealand Railways, wrote advising that the creek through Dir Betting's leasehold near Mosgiel station again required cleaning out.—Agreed to. John M’Master, Saddle Hill, wrote regarding the road near his place and at Dir Harris’s requiring attention. — All attended to. Hindon settlers wrote regarding bridging or piping Leo Stream ford, Outram-Hindon road.—inspector to report as to cost at next meeting. A. A. Jopp drew attention to the need for road repairs at Dlonnt Allan.--The surfaceman was instructed to attend to. general. 'fenders for delivery of gravel near Clark’s Junction were dealt with, and that of W. J. Ward and Sons was accepted. , , It was resolved to ask the Railways Department to lower the culvert on Gladlicld road at the station. In response to an. application trom the Perpetual Trustees relative, to water on Centro road, tho matter had been investigated, and it had been found that nothing could be. done to give relicf. Mr John Garrett, inspector ol works, reported as follows East Taieri Kidin"-: I’he bridge over the Owhiro Creek, on° Shand’s road, which had several planks broken, lias been repaired; eight new planks have also been put in tho bridge over the Silvcrstrcam on Gordon road. 'Die main highway has been surfaced from Cullen’s to Saddle Hill. On No. 2 Highway 352yds of maintenance gravel from tho Silvcrside dump have been run out on the section from Gordon road bridge to the OwhiroGladfield road; 30yds of maintenance gravel have been run out on Iliccarton road, and 62yds on Centre road. North Taieri Riding: The surfacemen have been engaged during the month surlacing the Halfway Bush to Whare Flat road, and also clearing scrub from the road leading to the Mount Allan runs. Kaikorai Riding; The following roads have been surfaced Freeman’s Green Island to Taieri Mouth, and Kaikorai Valley. Tho running cut of the maintenance metal on the Kaikorai Valley road is in progress. The main highway from Green Island boundary to Saddle Hill has been surfaced. Regarding the letter from Mr F. Valpy concerning the water from the road flowing on to his property, wdiich was referred to Cr Scott and the inspector with power to act, Mr Valpy was met on tho ground, and ivo arranged to clour tho ditch on a half-cost basis. Otokia Riding: A culvert has been put in on the soft portion at John M'Mastcr’s. The washout on tho Tukatau road at Campbell’s has been repaired, and tho main highway surfaced from Cullen’s to Otokia. Outram Riding: Tho following roads have ’ been surfaced :—Outram to Hindon, Outram to Maungatua, Outram to Allanton, West Taieri Church to Woodsido, Kirk’s road, and Allanton to Berwick. Tho Main Highway No. 2 has been surfaced from Outram to West Taieri Church. Maungatua Riding: 283yds of gravel have been carted from the School Creek (Mr Kinnard's property) on to the Outram-Berwick road. The running out of gravel on Grainger’s road is in progress. Tho gravelling of Mnnroo’s road will be proceeded with as soon as the teams are finished. The HcnieyBcnvick and B drain road has been surfaced. On the hill Lee Flat and Waipori roads have been surfaced with the power grader; 72ft of din pipes have been sent forward for culverts on tho Leo Flat road. The bridge over the Whare Creek will be finished before next meeting. Deep Stream Hiding: As instructed at last meeting, alternative tenders were called for supply and delivery of schist metal or gravel on a section of the main highway at Clark’s; eight tenders were received. It was decided to accept that of Ward and Sons for the supply of gravel from the Deep Stream, to be delivered by motor lorry. The following roads have been surfaced: —School to Rockland, Johnston’s, Hindon to Lee, Hindon Railway, Reid’s road at Shannon, Mr Reid supplying the grader teams for this work free of cost. The surfacing of the Three o’Clock track at Lamb Hill is in progress. The road from Lee Stream School through t ho yellow cutting to the peat bog has been surfaced with the'power grader; also the road from Lee Stream School to Lee Flat. The main highway has been surfaced from Clark’s to Sutton Stream. Strath Taieri Riding; The following roads have been graded:—Glaclbrook Settlement, Farm, and Top, the two latter being now ready for the gravel to be put clown. This will take place as soon as authority to expend the grant is obtained from the Public Works Department. The following roads have been surfaced:—Mount Stoker, Mount Ross, MiddlemarclT to

Moonlight, Dry Ridge, Thomson’s, Uobertslca, Middlomarcn to Bock and Pillar, and the road to'Hummock runs.— The report was adopted.
