BOROUGH MAIN ROADS

HEW SUBSIDY SCHEME (Special to the ' Stab. 1 ] WELLINGTON, February 25. In accordance with the extension of its policy of subsidising main road construction and maintenance, the Main Highways Board has published in a special ‘Gazette’ details of 186 miles of main roads through boroughs having less than 6,000 inhabitants, which win benefit from the new subsidy system. The declaration of these boroughs’ streets as continuation of main highways means that all the boroughs concerned are entitled to a highway fund subsidy of 30s in the £ on maintenance expenditure, and more liberal subsidies for construction or renewals on the same scale as paid to county councils.
